The following are the number of second level students who took the following subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the 2006/2007, 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 school years. Physics 2006/2007 19,996 2007/2008 20,270 2008/2009 20,207 Chemistry 2006/2007 - 19,358 2007/2008 - 20,123 2008/2009 - 21,177 Biology 2006/2007 - 61,337 2007/2008 - 63,441 2008/2009 - 66,284
The figures for each school year reflect enrolment at the 30th September and are compiled from the annual pupil returns made by each second level school each year.
