Question 178: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the steps he will take to deal with the number of qualified primary teachers who are finding it impossible to obtain a teaching post, if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the reason for the spiralling number of unemployed primary teachers is the promised decrease in the pupil-teacher ratio, which failed to materialise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government has had to make difficult choices and take difficult decisions in relation to the public finances. These include decisions aimed at reducing the size of the public service and clearly those decisions impact on the employment opportunities across the public service, including in the education sector.
