Question 407: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, who has been able to prove to his Department their Irish heritage, has been refused the right to residency here and served with a deportation order; and if he will state the requirements that need to be met by the applicant in order to regularise their application for residency and citizenship through naturalisation. I have been informed by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service that the person referred to by the Deputy has been resident in the State since 2001 and failed to re-register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau during that period as required under section 4 and 5 of the Immigration Act of 2004 . I have further been informed by them that he has not made an application to regularise his status in the State and that neither has he submitted an application for Irish Citizenship during this time. My Department will be in touch with the person referred to by the Deputy with regard to the regularisation of his immigration status in the State.
