Question 92: To ask the Minister for Transport the degree to which arrangements have been put in place to encourage a reduction in the cost of all aspects of Transport 21 in line with the economic downturn and keeping in mind the need to achieve such reductions in line with increased competitiveness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A significant number of roads and rail projects are under construction at the present time and the costs involved were set on the award and signing of the associated contracts. Contracts for future projects will be awarded following competitive public procurement processes and costs will be determined by the bids received.
The implementing State agencies have indicated to my Department that there is a general downward trend in the cost of land purchases and tender prices in recent times.
