Question 80: To ask the Minister for Transport when the cycle to work scheme will be fully operational; the amount the scheme will cost to operate in 2009 and for all full subsequent years; the health and safety and legal issues which have arisen from the implementation of the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the reply by the Minister for Finance to Question Number 157 on 19 May in which he referred to a number of issues that had arisen in relation to the implementation of the scheme in the civil service. Any clarification required in relation to such issues is a matter for the Department of Finance.

In relation to the date on which the scheme will become fully operational, the Minister for Finance's reply referred to earlier indicated that a circular is due to issue from his Department shortly.

The cost of the scheme will of course depend on the number of applications received and in the absences of information in this respect it is not possible to give a definitive estimate at this juncture.
