The school to which the Deputy refers was granted provisional recognition for a period of one year from September 2008 subject to compliance with a number of terms and conditions. In general, to be considered for permanent recognition a school must make an application stating that they have met the Criteria for Recognition of New Primary Schools, which include the requirement to follow the primary school curriculum, to comply with the Rules for National Schools and to demonstrate, usually over a period of 3 years, that enrolments are sufficient for the long-term viability of the school. In the meantime, my Department is reviewing the position now that the school has been in operation for almost one year and will be in contact with the school as quickly as possible.
