Under the Government's Bank's Recapitalisation Package, Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland agreed to engage in a 'clearing group' chaired by a Government representative and including representation from business interests and State agencies. The purpose of this group is to identify specific patterns of events or cases where the flow of credit to viable projects appears to be blocked and to seek to identify credit supply solutions.

As I announced last week, together with my colleague the Minister for Finance, I am proceeding immediately with the setting up of the Clearing Group and I will make a further statement on the matter shortly.
