Question 208: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the case of a person (details supplied) who is waiting for a colonoscopy for several months; her views on whether this is acceptable in view of her commitment to a four week waiting time for public patients; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Patients who require colonoscopies are prioritised on the basis of information about their symptoms provided by their GP. Those where cancer is suspected are dealt with on an urgent basis. Significant improvements in waiting times have been made by encouraging all hospitals to use the NTPF to eliminate waiting lists for people waiting longer than 3 months but there is need for further improvement. The specific case of the individual referred to by the Deputy is a matter for the HSE and has been referred to it for direct reply.

As the Deputy's question relates to service matters I have arranged for the question to be referred to the Health Service Executive for direct reply.
