Question 433: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the purpose of the request to Teagasc for a review of Teagasc's future involvement in the REP scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16836/09]

Subject to remaining within the level of resources available to Teagasc the delivery of a REPS service is an operational matter for Teagasc itself. The moratorium on recruitment and promotion in the Public Service announced by the Minister for Finance on 27 March 2009 prevents Teagasc from renewing temporary fixed term contracts including those for temporary REPS planners. I understand that Teagasc propose to offer a once-off opportunity to the contract planners to apply to Teagasc to become registered contractors and to provide a REPS planning service on terms and conditions set by Teagasc.
