Question 119: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if she will clarify the plan under the new consultants contract to have a single waiting list for all patients, public and private; when this will be implemented; if it will include waiting lists for outpatient appointments; the way it will operate if consultants in the same department of a hospital have opted for different contracts while the hospital operates a single list for that specialty; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the terms of Consultants Contact 2008, consultants will provide outpatient and ambulatory diagnostic services on a 'one for all' basis, so that all patients are seen at the key entry point to public hospitals on the basis of medical need alone. The Clinical Directors appointed under the new contract will have a key role in ensuring 'one for all' access. The detailed implementation of this common waiting list is the responsibility of the HSE and I have asked the Executive to examine the issues raised by the Deputy and reply to her directly.
