Question 33: To ask the Minister for Finance the quantum of Exchequer savings, through both increased tax revenue and reduced expenditure, he is seeking in the Budget of 7 April 2009; his views on whether it is realistic to target a general Government deficit of 9.5 % for 2009; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Supplementary Budget is to be presented to the Dáil on 7 April. The Government has already taken significant action to restore stability to the public finances and the Supplementary Budget will continue this process.

In relation to the details of what will be presented in the Supplementary Budget, it is not the usual practice to speculate in advance on the content of any budget and I do not propose to deviate from this practice now. However, all options are on the table, including action on both current and capital expenditure, as well as revenue raising measures.
