Question 117: To ask the Minister for Finance the number of civil servants who were obliged to retire on reaching the age of 65 years broken down by gender in respect of the years 2004 to 2008; the number of men included in this who had 40 or more years pensionable service on retirement; the number of women included in this who had 40 or more years pensionable service on retirement; the average pensionable service of men included in these; the average pensionable service of women included in these; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The information sought by the Deputy insofar as it is available is set out in the table(s) below. However it should be noted that though an officer had 40 years pensionable service it does not necessarily mean that she/he had 40 years actual service. In some cases, an officer may have purchased service, had ill-health added years or professional added years.

Question 118: To ask the Minister for Finance the number of civil servants in his Department, broken down by gender, who are not subject to a compulsory retirement age of 65 years and who are free to continue at work after age 65 years in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions Act) 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10479/09]

There is a total of 58 staff currently serving in my Department who have been recruited since the commencement of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004 and who, under the provisions of the Act, are not subject to compulsory retirement at 65 years of age. Of the total, 36 are male and 22 are female.

These figures do not include staff on fixed term contracts which are expected to expire before they reach the minimum retirement age.
