Question 81: To ask the Minister for Finance the legal firm which advised Anglo Irish Bank and the ten investors that the borrowing arrangements entered into were legal and above board; if that legal firm is still in the employment of Anglo Irish Bank or any of its clients; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Anglo Irish Bank is being run on an arms length commercial basis. Consequently, normal commercial decisions, which include the contraction of legal advice, are a matter for the Board of Anglo.

As the Deputy will be aware, matters at Anglo Irish Bank are the subject of a number of corporate governance investigations including investigations being undertaken by the Financial Regulator and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement. It would not be appropriate for me to comment on or prejudge the outcome of these investigations.
