I wish to inform the Deputy that an established civil servant may not be in receipt of a pension from the civil service, with the exception of that in respect of a deceased spouse and a civil service salary at the same time. However, an unestablished officer may be in receipt of a civil service pension and civil service salary at the same time, with pension abatement rules applying. I can confirm to the Deputy that there are no unestablished officers currently employed by my Department, in receipt of a civil service pension. Retired civil servants are engaged by my Department to undertake specific tasks, who receive payment for the work undertaken. If the Deputy would like further information on this, arrangements can be made to provide this information.
