Applications for the Summer Works Scheme are currently being assessed and schools will be notified of the outcome in due course. Minor Works Grants of around €27m were paid out to primary schools throughout the country for the 2008/2009 school year to enable thousands of small scale works to be completed without the need to interact with my Department. Individual primary schools received a grant in the sum of €5,500 plus €18.50 per pupil.

Devolved funding under the emergency works scheme continues to be available in 2009. The purpose of this scheme is to ensure the availability of funding for urgent works to those schools that are most in need of resources as a result of an unforeseen event of a capital nature that can arise during the course of a school year. Funding is available in 2009 for the remaining Permanent Accommodation and Small Schools Scheme projects either currently on site or concluding the architectural planning process with a view to going on site this year.
