Question 12: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the way it is proposed to fund the new national paediatric hospital; if the sale of lands at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin is part of the proposed capital spend; if that land is in the State's ownership; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Children's Health First Report commissioned by the Health Service Executive indicated that the population and projected demands in this country can support only one world class tertiary paediatric hospital. It recommended that the hospital should be in Dublin and should, ideally, be co-located with a leading adult academic hospital. Following detailed consideration, it has been agreed that the most appropriate location for the new National Paediatric Hospital is at the Mater Hospital.

The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board was established in May, 2007. Its primary function is to plan, design, build, furnish and equip the new National Paediatric Hospital. The bulk of the funding required for the development of the new hospital will be provided by the Exchequer but the Board is exploring other funding options including philanthropy and proceeds from property sales.

The lands attached to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children are not in the State's ownership.
