Question 210: To ask the Minister for Health and Children when legislation will be put in place for labelling on bottles, that is, warning about alcohol and pregnancy, in view of the fact that alcohol is not only a toxin, it is a teratogen, a carcinogen and a mutagen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department is developing proposals on the labelling of all alcohol containers advising of the risks of consuming alcohol during pregnancy. The labelling of foodstuffs, including alcohol products, is subject to European regulation and scrutiny so the proposals will have to take this into account.
