Question 83: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will confirm that use can be made of valuers from the private sector in respect of foreshore applications arising from the difficulties in the Valuation Office supplying a valuation service for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Following confirmation by the Valuation Office that it would not be in a position to supply a valuation service in respect of activities on State foreshore, my Department sought approval from the Department of Finance for the use of valuers from the private sector. A number of applications for foreshore consents currently on hand cannot be progressed without valuation. The Department of Finance has now given my Department sanction to obtain the services of valuers from the private sector subject to conditions. These conditions and procedural issues are currently being examined as a matter of urgency. I expect my Department will be in a position to engage the necessary valuers shortly.
