Question 1547: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in responding to the tendering process application for a new school building for a school (details supplied) in County Wicklow submitted in 2007; if his attention has been drawn to the weak fabric of the outer walls, their hazardous nature and their effect on the health and safety of the children and adults in the school; and the outcome of this application. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that on the 23rd of January last, I announced details of 10 major school building projects which are to proceed to tender and construction. The project for the school to which the Deputy refers, which is for a new building, is included in this list. While all of the projects concerned were previously offered for tender, they will now be re-offered under the new form of contracts for public capital projects to get better value for money. The projects are now to start the re-tendering process so that construction work can get under way as quickly as possible. My officials will contact each school shortly to guide them on the next steps to be taken.
