My Department is engaged in an on-going capital building programme designed to modernize and enhance the training, operational and accommodation facilities available to the Defence Forces both Permanent and Reserve. The programme focuses mainly on infrastructural projects comprising of the construction of new buildings and the refurbishment of existing buildings. The requirement for living-in accommodation in the Dublin Area is being considered as part of the overall Defence Force requirements and the provision of any accommodation required will be addressed in the 3-5 year programme. In addition a detailed review of single living in accommodation is due to be completed early in the New Year. Projects are prioritised in terms of addressing Defence Force operational requirements taking into account the annual capital allocation for the ongoing building programme and the requirement for further accommodation in Cathal Brugha Barracks will be examined in the context of operational requirements and the result of the accommodation study.
