Question 251: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if he has agreed a strategy with County Kildare VEC in relation to the future accommodation needs of a school (details supplied) in County Kildare; if he envisages the on site modernisation of the school or if it is intended to construct a new school on a green field site; if a suitable site has been identified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The school to which the Deputy refers has applied to my Department for large scale capital funding for an extension project. No decision has been taken yet as to whether or not this can be provided within the confines of the existing site.

The progression of all large scale building projects, including this project, from initial design stage through to construction phase will be considered in the context of my Department's multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme. However, in light of current competing demands on the capital budget of the Department, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the progression of the project at this time.

I can confirm that the school to which the Deputy refers has made an application to my Department for large scale capital funding for a new school building. The application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects and assigned a band 2 rating.
