As the Deputy will be aware, all applications for large scale capital funding are assessed against published prioritisation criteria which were formulated following consultation with the Education Partners.

Under the criteria, each project is assigned a Band Rating which reflects the type of works needed and the urgency attaching to them. There are four Band Ratings in all with Band 1 being the highest and Band 4 the lowest. Projects are advanced through the school building programme in accordance with the Band rating attaching to them and as they are ready to proceed.

In this case, there has been no change to the band ratings assigned to proposed large scale building projects for schools in County Clare since 10 July. However, the band ratings for projects are subject to review and may be adjusted where there has been a change in the circumstances e.g. a significant change in demographic trends in the area. The progression of all large scale building projects, including those for schools in County Clare, from initial design through to construction, will be considered in the context of my Department's multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme.
