Question 157: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will estimate the savings that would be made by suspending incremental pay increases in 2009 with regard to her Department and agencies within the remit of her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. It is not possible to estimate the saving that would be made by suspending incremental pay increases. Any additional cost would be offset by reductions in costs associated with staff on higher scales being replaced by staff on lower scales.

The administration of incremental pay increases in the agencies under the remit of my Department is a day-to-day matter for the agencies concerned. My Department has no role or function in this process.
