Question 216: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the locations at which the money allocated in the Health Service Executive budget for 2008 in respect of the roll out of the national screening programme for infants to detect cystic fibrosis was spent; the amount of money allocated in 2009 for this purpose; and if she will make a statement on the ongoing delays in this programme. My Department has been advised by the Health Service Executive that it will not be possible to commence the programme of screening of newborns for cystic fibrosis as planned in 2008 and that the position will now require to be reviewed in the context of the total level of funding available to the HSE in 2009.

My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to reply directly to the Deputy on the issues raised by him.
