Question 517: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the role and responsibilities of each of his Ministers of State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38285/08]

The following Ministers of State have responsibility in the context of their appointment by the Government to my Department as set out as follows:

1: John Moloney T.D. Minister of State has responsibility for particular aspects of the implementation of the EPSEN and Disability Acts relating to education that require co-ordination between the health and education sectors.

2: Barry Andrews T.D, Minister of State, has responsibility for the education sector aspects of Early Childhood Education and Youth Justice. In addition he also has responsibility for Youth Affairs.

3: Seán Haughey TD, Minister of State has responsibility for Further Education, School Transport and certain aspects of the overall Educational Disadvantage brief.

4: Conor Lenihan, T.D., Minister of State has the responsibility of ensuring that the range of education policies across different areas of the Department and the bodies under its aegis take account of the need to integrate immigrants and their families Ireland on newcomer issues. He has also responsibility for the co-ordination of the work of the Department of Education and Science on the integration of newcomers with the related work of other relevant Departments and State Agencies.

5: Jimmy Devins, T.D., Minister of State has responsibility for the oversight of the implementation of the specific range of commitments in the Government's Strategy for Science Technology and Innovation that come under the responsibility of the Minister for Education and Science.

The Deputy will be aware that in exercising their functions, the Ministers of State have regard to the overall responsibilities of the Minister for Education and Science in relation to the wider policy and budgetary framework, and the determination of priorities within that, for the Department of Education and Science.
