The Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education was set up in 2002 for a fixed term period of 3 years. In 2005, it was sanctioned for a further 3 year period. The Centre did not have a mandate to continue beyond 2008. During its term of existence, the annual cost of running the Centre was in the region of €1 million.
