The Inspectorate is a division within the Department of Education and Science. It has a statutory quality assurance role in relation to education provision at first and second level, as set out in Section 13 of the Education Act, 1998. One of its core functions is to report on the quality of education provision in schools and centres for education.
Inspection reports are designed to inform the school community, the Department of Education and Science and, since February 2006, the general public about the quality of education provision in individual schools. Procedures are in place whereby inspectors inform the relevant administrative sections within the Department of any significant issues that arise during inspection visits. This means that due cognisance is taken of the views and recommendations of inspectors in the Department's decision-making processes.
The position in relation to the school referred to by the Deputy is that my Department is examining the feasibility of allowing the school to proceed in the 3rd Bundle of school projects to be procured via Public Private Partnership. This examination is nearing completion and I will be making an announcement about the matter as quickly as possible.
