Question 164: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, further to Parliamentary Question No. 161 of 22 October 2008, the reason he has not reviewed section 33 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 after its first year; and the reason he does not propose to establish a formal mechanism for an annual review. As I am sure the Deputy will appreciate and as I advised in my reply to Question No. 161 of 22 October, the provisions in question, which are contained in section 33 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, have only been in effect since 18 May 2007. Therefore, the issue of establishing a formal review mechanism will be addressed at an appropriate stage when conclusions on the impact of the provisions contained in the Criminal Justice Acts 2006 and 2007 which deal with this matter can be appropriately reached.
