Question 105: To ask the Minister for Finance his views on a modification in the gift tax rules in order that partners who are cohabiting and rearing children together are allowed to transfer the property into their joint names without incurring capital acquisition tax. [37796/08]

I have no immediate plans to change the treatment of cohabiting couples under the tax code. Such individual policy changes would better follow, rather than precede, any change in the general area of public policy concerning the legal recognition of non-marital relationships.
