Question 213: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the budget which is under the responsibility of the various Ministers of State at his Department, that is the budgets which are under their sole discretion and which do not require his authority before approval is made for expenditure; the amounts in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The total allocation under the control of Minister Haughey, as included in the 2009 Budget Estimates is €426m. The total allocation under the control of Minister of State Andrews is €49m.

In exercising their delegated functions, Ministers of State have regard to the overall responsibilities of the Minister for Education and Science in relation to the wider policy and budgetary framework, and the determination of priorities within that, for the Department of Education and Science.
