Question 150: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide in tabular format, the number of civilian staff working in the Garda Síochána in each year for the past five years and to date in 2008; and the ratio of civilian staff to Garda officers in each year for the same period. I am informed by the Garda Commissioner that the number of whole time equivalent civilian personnel working in An Garda Síochána as at the 31 of December 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 30 September, 2008 was as set out as follows. The total strength of An Garda Síochána at these dates and the ratio of civilian staff to Gardaí is also set out.

During the period in question there has been a 92% increase in the number of civilians and a 19% increase in the number of Gardaí in An Garda Síochána
