Question 403: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the measures or policies that have been implemented to prevent loss of private data from laptops, blackberries and other hand-held devices in his Department; if he is satisfied that all personal information held within his Department is secure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The issue of the security of portable electronic devices in use in my Department is under review. It is expected that encryption of laptop computers will be in place by the end of 2008, in addition to the existing security measures already in place.

To date no loss of private data from any Departmental equipment has been reported.
