The National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) is the statutory agency which can assist parents who are experiencing difficulty in securing a school place for their child.
The child's mother had taken a Section 29 appeal against St Mary's Secondary School which had refused enrolment of her child because of its inability to provide the specialist resources required to meet the child's educational needs. On 27th August 2008 the Appeals Committee did not uphold the appeal.
I understand from enquiries made by officials of my Department, that the NEWB are continuing to urgently assist the mother of the child concerned to secure a school place which can provide an appropriate education for her child. Home tuition has been in place for the child since 30th September and will continue until a suitable place becomes available.
