Question 323: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the number of submissions received by his Department in the context of the proposed new animal welfare Bill; the name of the organisations that have made submissions; the number of these organisations with whom his Department has consulted directly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In the context of the proposed draft Animal Health and Welfare Bill, almost 400 submissions/comments have been received from stakeholders, including organisations and individuals, with an interest in animal health and welfare issues. Some of those that made submissions asked for an opportunity to elaborate on issues in the draft legislation and I am now finalising the format of such further consultation. Following completion of this process, arrangements will proceed with drafting the legislation having regard to all comments received. Arrangements will be made in due course to include the names of those that made submissions on the draft Bill on the Department's website.
