I have no statutory function in the matter. EirGrid is the independent State-owned body responsible for the operation, development and maintenance of the transmission system. ESB Networks is responsible for the operation, development and maintenance of the distribution system. EirGrid also offers terms and levies charges to market participants for the connection to and use of the transmission system, which are regulated by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER). Nevertheless, given the central energy policy responsibility of my Department, we are in discussion with CER, EirGrid and ESB Networks with a view to progressing necessary arrangements to underpin connections by developers of micro generation and larger scale generation projects to the national grid.
