Question 148: To ask the Minister for Transport the steps he is taking to provide support similar to the fuel duty rebate scheme for passenger bus transport services which is being withdrawn; if his attention has been drawn to the impact this will have on the development of public transport, particularly in rural areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As already stated in my answer to Question Nos. 28 and 33 on 1st October last, the Finance Act 2008 provides for the removal of excise duty reliefs in the bus sector with effect from 1 November 2008. Since this is in line with our EU obligations, there is no power to restore this scheme.
