Question 75: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment further to Parliamentary Question No. 68 of 1 October 2008, the average length of time involved in the registration of a business name in the Companies Registration Office; the steps proposed to be taken in order to eliminate the backlog for registration of business names; the targets and timescale, having regard to the inconvenience and delay being caused to business and commerce as a result of the backlog; and if she will make a statement on the matter. At present, the average length of time from receipt to registration of an application for a business name with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) is eight weeks.

The Office recently allocated extra resources to this area and it is anticipated that the backlog will be eliminated by the end of November if applications continue to be received at their present rate.
