Question 489: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his views on amending the legislation in order that local authorities are permitted to collect a levy from advertising revenues derived from advertisements in bus shelters and other such public places; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Local authorities levy rates on commercial properties, including advertising hoardings and bus shelters. It is also open to local authorities to enter into contractual arrangements with companies that are permitted by the local authority to advertise in public areas.
