Under the sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, funding is allocated to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. For the 2008 Sports Capital Programme, in line with the commitment contained in the Agreed Programme for Government, the level of own funding required from applicants in urban disadvantaged areas has been reduced from 20% to 10%. This covers applicants from RAPID and Local Drugs Task Force areas. Applicants from CLÁR areas have to show own funding of 20% of project costs. For all other areas the level of own funding required is 30%. These thresholds are in keeping with the Government commitment to prioritising the needs of disadvantaged areas.
