Question 1809: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the steps being taken to ensure that MRSA, C. difficile and other such bugs do not infect pupils while at school here, as has happened in the outbreaks of MRSA which has led to fatalities in schools in the USA in the past year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Issues in relation to public health are primarily a matter for the Health Service Executive. The HSE has forwarded some advice on these matters to the Department and this will be issued to schools in the coming weeks.
