Question 1782: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding a new school (details supplied) in County Meath; the situation regarding the availability to his Department of the zoned site on the Navan Road for development of this new school; the procedure taken by Kells Town Council to rezone the alternative Cavan Road site for the development of the new school, if his Department were not to sanction the Navan Road site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. At the outset, I should point out that the procedures employed by the planning authorities in relation to the zoning of land is a matter for that authority in the first instance and I have no function in this matter. The Department has already acquired a site for a post-primary school under the Redress Scheme. The Department is currently examing the issue of the Navan Road site referred to by the Deputy and will revert to the local authority with its views on same.
