Question 1730: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the number of special needs assistants employed in primary and secondary schools in County Monaghan in September 2008; the corresponding figure for September 2007; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30402/08]

There are currently 94 special needs assistants (whole-time equivalents) employed in schools in County Monaghan.
Sixty four are employed in Primary and thirty are employed in Post Primary schools.
There were ninety two special needs assistants employed in Primary and Post Primary schools during the 2007/2008 school year.
