Ireland does not have any fishing quotas in the Kattegat and Skaggerak fishing zones. These fishing grounds are to the north and east of Denmark and Irish vessels had no history of fishing in these areas.

Following negotiations between officials from the Department and officials from DG Mare, the Seafood Development Operational Programme 2007-2013 was adopted by the EU Commission on 9 September 2008 under the EU Commission decision (C/2008/4993).
