My Department is aware of its responsibilities under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 to safeguard the privacy rights of individuals in relation to the processing of personal data. There is a privacy policy on my Department's website together with information on how to access personal data and a list of appointed Data Controllers within my Department.

Question 882: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of laptop computers, data storage devices and USB memory sticks that have been stolen or lost from his Department in 2007 and to date in 2008; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30149/08]

No laptop computers, data storage devices and USB memory sticks have been reported stolen or lost from the Department. A small number of Blackberry devices have been lost and not recovered to date. They were quickly missed, the accounts frozen and the data removed by the server. There was no loss of data.
