The formulation of proposals in relation to the opening and closing of Garda stations is a matter, in the first instance, for the Garda Commissioner in the context of the annual policing plan, as provided for in section 22 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005. I am advised by the Garda Authorities that the long-term plans for Mountjoy station are being considered in the context of the future of both it and Fitzgibbon Street Station and taking into account the overall policing requirements of the area.
