Measures to strengthen enforcement against illegal use of the parking permits were provided in changes to the Road Traffic Acts between 2004 and 2007. However, I am aware that a number of organisations are of the view that the present permit scheme is being abused or misused in various ways. A review of the disabled persons' parking scheme is underway in my Department, and the outcome will determine if any legislative amendments are required.
