Patients admitted on a day case basis, other than medical card holders, are subject to a charge under the Health (In-Patient Charges)(Amendment) Regulations 2007. Patients attending out-patient departments are not subject to a charge.

In this context I have asked the Health Service Executive to ensure that there is a consistent policy in relation to the provision of venesection services throughout the country and that haemochromotosis patients are seen as out-patients.
