Question 928: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will report on what were and are the implications of Ireland signing up to the Bristol Accord 20 in December 2005 particularly in terms of the building of sustainable communities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The definition of sustainable communities, set out in the Bristol Accord, has been adopted in my Department's housing policy statement Delivering Homes, Sustaining Communities. The policy statement sets out a vision to guide the transformation of the Irish housing sector over the medium term, by delivering more and better quality housing responses and by doing this in a more strategic way, focused on the building of sustainable communities. Having adopted the Bristol Accord definition, its implications are reflected in the policy statement itself, in terms of the measures to be progressed in pursuit of the sustainable communities objective.
