The commitment in the Programme for Government that orthodontic treatment be referred to the National Treatment Purchase Fund is being examined in the context of the estimates for 2009.

Question 236: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the progress made on the programme for Government commitment to ensure that any child under five years of age waiting more than three months for occupational speech and language therapy can access these services automatically through the National Treatment Purchase Fund; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Health and Children is currently considering a range of measures aimed at improving access to therapy services for children with disabilities. The main concern is to ensure that quality services can be provided to those most in need in the most effective manner possible. The commitment in the Programme for Government is being considered in that context.
