Question 127: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the proposals which have been put forward under the efficiency review 2008 initiated on budget day 2008 by his Department and agencies operating under his Department; and the aggregate savings to be made by implementation of these savings in 2008 and in the full year for 2009. As the Deputy is aware, on foot of an announcement in the 2008 Budget of an efficiency review of administrative spending across the public service, each Department was required to examine such spending, both within its own ambit and of bodies under its aegis, and to provide proposals for administrative savings to the Department of Finance. My Department provided proposals in this regard in March last, which are being considered by the Department of Finance. The Deputy will appreciate that as the proposals remain part of the deliberative process, and are being considered in the context of the preparation of the 2009 Estimates, it would not be appropriate for me to make any such proposals public.
